Summer is fast approaching, are you ready?

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 7:42 pm

The summer will be here shortly and with that comes children running the streets as schools let out for the summer, vacations, picnics and sun burns. Be careful when driving making sure you take that extra time in the residential neighborhoods to fully stop at the posted signs, obey the speed limits and just keep your eyes open for the little ones. Take the extra time this year and prepare for your outdoor adventures also. Make sure to stock up on plenty of sun screen, insect repellent and water to keep hydrated.

Enjoy, have fun and always remember to relax!

Spring Is Just Around The Corner, Are You Ready!

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 9:33 pm

Well here we go, you can see it everywhere you look,It may be cold but the sun is shining and spring is getting near. Soon it will be time to shed all the winter clothes for a light coat and a short sleeve shirt. Now our kids will go right to shorts but us adults will wait another few months for that. Soon we’ll be able to sweep away the cinders from the plow trucks for good. No more snow days for the kids and walking to the bus stop will be much more enjoyable with a warm breeze.

I know everyone is looking forward to putting this winter behind us so keep smiling as spring is just around the corner!

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Raises $22,000 For PA Elk Country!

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 9:46 pm

Elk Foundation Bidders Help Pennsylvania Elk Tag Auction

MISSOULA, Mont.—The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation knows how much premier

elk tags can generate for conservation, and RMEF reps on Friday night helped

Pennsylvania’s first-ever special elk tag raise $28,500.

The tag was auctioned at the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) convention in

Nashville.

“Congratulations to NWTF. We’re always pleased when good money is raised to

conserve habitat for elk and other wildlife—and it was gratifying for us to be there,

participate in the auction and help this tag bring a respectable amount,” said David Allen,

president and CEO of RMEF.

The tag appeared seconds away from selling for $8,500 when RMEF reps jumped into

the bidding to ensure the tag brought a worthy sum. When the auctioneer finally finished,

the cheering crowd erupted at the total raised for conservation in the Keystone State.

Allen said, “We knew what we thought was a fair market value for that tag and we

wanted to make sure it brought at least that amount. Our volunteers and the Pennsylvania

Game Commission have worked hard for a lot of years to get the state’s elk herd to the

level it’s at today. We also know that someday we will likely be selling this tag ourselves

and we wanted to invest in its long-term success. All the money ends up in wildlife

conservation and that is our overall focus anyway.”

A bidder from Pennsylvania wound up with the tag.

“It was great as the buyer is a longtime member of RMEF as well as other conservation

groups. He and his wife are Pennsylvania residents and they told me later that they

wanted to make sure the tag went home to an in-state hunter. We couldn’t be happier

about that as well,” Allen added.

Opportunities to hunt elk in Pennsylvania also will be awarded though a general drawing.

Fifty-nine lucky hunters who submit an application and a $10 fee will receive a tag.

In addition to stewarding elk habitat in the Keystone State, the Elk Foundation also is

enhancing conservation education in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of

Conservation and Natural Resources. Together, the partners are building a new Elk

Country Visitor Center in western Pennsylvania.

You reap what you sow!

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 8:41 pm

Lately I like most of you have heard nothing but talk about the presidential elections and the two campaigns. No matter what your choice of candidates is we all have to remember that we like everyone else hope to be making the best decisions for our families and ourselves. We need to keep that in mind because lately there has been some pretty harsh talk on both sides of the fence about one or the other candidate. Let’s keep in mind that these candidates like us are people and we need to respect each other as we would want to be respected. They too have families whom they love and are loved by and we shouldn’t wish them any ill will as we wouldn”t want someone to wish that on us.

This also goes for your friends, family, coworkers, assocates from sporting organizations or even your neighbors. At work you may not agree with someone, you may be involved in your childrens sporting events and have to deal with the other teams parents or you may have neighbors you wouldn’t invite for a Thanksgiving cocktail but keep in mind that you like them are trying to do the best for you and your families. You may not like the way other people act or speak but is it really up to us to judge them? They also need to heed these words as they too will “reap what they sow”.

So in the future when someone is talking badly about someone or you are upset at the neighbor keep in mind that we ALL “reap what we sow”.

School Is In, Please Be Careful

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 12:41 pm

School has started all over the state and now is the time to take extra precaution when heading to work in the morning. Now is the time to start slowing down, coming to a full stop at intersections and keeping our focus on the road.

Let’s enjoy the fall and keep our eyes open.

Get out and enjoy the weather!

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 9:09 pm

This is a great time of the year, the sun is shining, the skies are blue and the temprature is a comfortable 70 degrees. This is the time of year when baseball season is winding down, football season has just started and hockey season is getting ready to start. We will all have plenty of time to hang around the kitchen and sofa for the winter months so get outside and enjoy the weather! Take a longer walk with your dog, get on the bike and pedal a little further or just walk with that special one on some of the many trails in the Pittsburgh area. This is the time of year to finish up those summer projects and start to enjoy the days ahead. Let me know if you have a favorite thing you like to do this time of the year, share it and let’s all enjoy!

Don’t forget to STOP and take in a deep breath of fresh air and thank the good Lord for another fine creation!

John Challis is Remembered

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 3:57 am

Recently some very prominent and articulate nationally know men such as Tony Snow & Tim Russert have gone on to be with our Lord at a very young age. These men have brilliantly articulated their journalism skills to a national audience but we locally have been blessed to have had someone articulate such wisdom to us. A young man named John Challis of Freedom touched us with his courage and wisdom all while facing the reality that his life on earth was soon to end and his life with Christ would begin. Like most of you we didn’t personally know John but we have been touched by his boldness to get the message out that life is precious. We watched him during Pittsburgh Penguin playoff games, during Pittsburgh Pirate games and during numerous news casts. When you listened to John you were amazed at his strength, courage and wisdom about life, love and the word of the Lord. We are sorry to see him loose his battle but we rejoice in his entering the kingdom of our Lord. We pray that the Lord will give his family strength during these sad times but I smiled when his father released the statement that “he was blessed to be able to spend the last 1.5 years with John”.

John touched many and will not be forgotten as he smiles down from Heaven on us all; who could forget that smile.

May the Lord’s blessings and comfort be upon his family.

Tim Russert & Tony Snow Remembered

Filed under: Personal — mark @ 3:00 pm

No matter what your political views are the news media lost two great political minds. As you listen to the people speak about both men you hear the important words such as family man, faith, personable and knowledgeable. Both men spent years devoting their life to doing what is right and getting to the bottom of the wrong doings. These men will be dearly missed by many for their honesty and how they argued their postitions so effectively.

These men will be truly missed but their faith which has guiding them through life on this earth is now guiding their spirits in heaven.
